SEQUENCE examples

01
1 to 10

Need a simple list.

=SEQUENCE(10)

Writes 1 through 10 in one column.

02
Dates for a week

Start 1 Sep 2026.

=SEQUENCE(7,1,DATE(2026,9,1),1)

Seven serial dates. Format the cells as dates.

03
Two columns

A small grid.

=SEQUENCE(3,2,10,5)

Fills a 3x2 grid starting at 10, stepping by 5.

Common mistakes

  • Blocked spill

Clear cells below and to the right or you get #REF!.

  • Forgetting date format

SEQUENCE of dates is serial numbers until you format them.

  • Using it in old Excel

Excel 365 has SEQUENCE. Older Excel needs a helper column.

SEQUENCE FAQ

Why do I see #REF!?

SEQUENCE needs empty cells below and to the right. Clear the spill range.

Can I make a calendar?

Yes. SEQUENCE days, then weekday formulas on that spill.

Does Excel SEQUENCE match?

Yes. Same arguments in Excel 365.
